Serving Soup for the Soul in Cotacachi

Dec 02

Currently, we are serving from 20 to 25 disadvantaged elderly people breakfast and lunch.  A typical meal in the morning is fresh juice, egg, bread and coffee or hot chocolate.  A typical lunch is soup, rice, meat or chicken with a small salad.

Looking for a creative way to make a difference in the lives of these less fortunate souls?

How Can I Get Involved With This Project?

Why not adopt a senior and help in his or her daily care?  A cost of $18 per week will provide food for this person. ($2.50 a day per person x 7 days per week).

Thankfully, additions to the building have expanded our space.  The carport has been enclosed so we can seat additional people for meals. A concrete slab was poured at the side of the building for a shower with hot and cold water and a toilet, and there will be a place for doing laundry.

We are happy to have the outdoor shower and toilet building under construction through donations. The shower area will be open later this month. At this time, donations for shampoo, body soap, towels for the shower and hopefully a change of clothes are desperately needed.  We also need nail clippers and items such as a hair brushes, combs for their personal care.  We have volunteers to help shower the men and women.

Christmas and the Holidays will be here within a few weeks.  We would like to distribute small personal gifts – as they are the forgotten people.  I hope you have it in your heart to help us at this time of year.

Your previous donations have enclosed the carport and started the building of the upstairs unit.  We have some school age children that need a home.  We want to enclose the upstairs unit as fast as possible, and are short on funds. We can use the land behind the building and plan to build a shelter to house 8 to 10 people.

How Are My Funds Used?

Ecuador Project Hope is a small non-profit organization as many of you already know. And funding is required to complete this necessary shelter.

Your contributions go directly to serve the needs of these gentle people and none to admin fees or salaries.  All of our helping hands belong to our generous volunteers.  And all of us are grateful for their help with our project.

We have remodelled and completed 2 indigenous village schools.  The Cotacachi soup kitchen is the newest project. The volunteer work is by expats and locals living in Cotacachi.

I live Outside Ecuador – How Can I Help?

Even if you do not live here, you can choose to make a difference with your donations by Paypal, credit card or check.

Please take a moment now and join us in offering these sweet elderly folks a better way to experience their remaining years.

Wishing you many blessings during this Holiday season and through 2014. Thank you for your generosity.
